A Child's First Move

Young children often don't understand what is going on when a family is moving. Naturally, what is not understood turns to fear.

Today I got to witness a family introducing their young daughter to her future home and it was special. She saw her new room, looked out all the windows, explored all the hiding places and even danced in the basement. I think she decided moving wasn't so bad after all!

The whole process of buying & selling homes and packing & moving tend to be some of the most stressful times of our lives. No matter how much we try to hide it, kids generally can sense the stress. If you are planning a move in the near future and have young children, take some special time to help them understand what is going on. Make the move something they can look forward to rather than dread. Keep your wits about yourself even when it feels overwhelming and there will be less of a chance of your children picking up on your stress and acting out. Happy children means a happier you!
